Welcome, fellow moms (and dads!) with tiny humans in tow! If you’ve ever tried to juggle a toddler, a carry-on and a stroller in the middle of a busy airport, you’re probably wondering where the “fun” in family travel went.
I’m Micha Østergaard, and trust me, I’ve been there.
As a former Olympic swimmer, I’ve traveled the world, but it wasn’t until my daughter Anuuk came into the picture that I truly discovered the unique challenges (and joys!) of flying with kids.
Within her first year, Anuuk and I had taken over 16 flights. As magical as our adventures were exploring Europe together, they weren’t exactly smooth sailing.
Navigating airport children’s facilities is tricky and I quickly learned that traveling with a baby brings a lot of questions. Each airport and airline has its own rules. Sometimes you're allowed to bring a stroller to the gate, sometimes you’re not. Sometimes you can bring extra baby items, and sometimes you need to check them in.
And let’s not even get started on the time I suddenly had to check my stroller in at one airport while dragging my baby girl and all our stuff through the terminal. Flying with a baby was from time to time more like a mission filled with questions and answers nowhere to be found, than just an adventurous journey for my daughter and I.
That was my wake-up call.
